The New Jersey Medical School Global Tuberculosis Institute is the tuberculosis Regional Training and Medical Consultation Center for the northeastern United States

The purpose of this training is to provide clinicians with the basic skills and information on the diagnosis and treatment of TB as well as public health issues related to TB control. This training utilizes lectures, discussions, panel presentations, and case studies. 

Physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and other interested clinicians are invited to attend.

As the incidence of tuberculosis continues to decline, maintaining clinical and public health expertise in TB is particularly challenging. This training aims to build the TB knowledge base of clinical staff to facilitate appropriate risk assessment, testing, and treatment of TB.

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

• Interpret the national and local epidemiology of TB to better screen and treat groups that are at high risk for TB 
• Select appropriate diagnostic techniques for the diagnosis of latent TB
• Assess the benefits and drawbacks of different treatment regimens for latent TB infection
• Apply current recommendations for TB testing and diagnosis in patients with HIV so that patients are tested appropriately and diagnosed promptly
• Discuss challenges and strategies for practicing patient-centered care when diagnosing and treating latent TB

In order to meet the learning objectives and receive continuing education credits, participants are required to attend the entire course and complete an evaluation. A post-course follow up evaluation will be sent to participants within 2 months of the course.

From Main Campus/Downtown Worcester Rte. 9 East:
Take Route 9 East over the Lake Quinsigamond Bridge. At third set of traffic lights after the bridge, bear left onto Maple Avenue (intersection marked by Fairlawn Shopping Center, Chili's Restaurant). Follow Maple Avenue to top of hill. Turn left at the maroon sign for University of Massachusetts Medical School Worcester Foundation Campus. The Hoagland-Pincus Conference Center is on the right.

From Route 9 West:
Westbound from Westborough Rte. 495: Proceed West past Route 140 in Shrewsbury, continue to the second stop light. This is Oak Street; there will be a bowling alley on the right. Turn Right on Oak Street, and proceed until you reach a stop sign. This is Maple Avenue. The entrance to the conference center is directly across the street. The Hoagland-Pincus Conference Center is the first building on the right.

From the Mass Pike (I-90):
Westbound from Boston: Take exit 11A to Route 495 North to Route 9 West.
Eastbound from Springfield: Take Exit 10 to Route 290 East.

From I-290:
Eastbound from Auburn: Proceed on Route 290 East to Exit 22 - Main Street, Shrewsbury. Take Exit 22, at end of ramp take a right onto Main Street.
Westbound from Marlborough: Proceed on Route 290 West to Exit 22 - Main Street, Shrewsbury. Take exit 22, at end of the ramp take a left onto Main Street.

Once on Main Street, Shrewsbury:
Proceed on Main Street through the first set of lights and up the hill. Take right onto Gage Lane (the first right after passing St. John's High School). Follow Gage Lane to the end. Turn right onto Maple Avenue. Proceed one-half mile, turn right at the maroon sign for UMMS Worcester Foundation Campus. The Hoagland-Pincus Conference Center is the first building on the right.
